Overview

Zambia officially joined the 50x2030 Initiative in January 2026 with the signing of the Program Implementation Plan (PIP). The country program brings together the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats), the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the World Bank, FAO, and IFAD, with support from the World Bank-financed Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Statistics Capacity Project (StatCap).

The program supports Zambia in strengthening the production, dissemination, and use of high-quality agricultural data for evidence-based policymaking. 50x2030 provides technical assistance across both data production and data use, including the implementation of the Integrated Agricultural Survey (IAS), annual agricultural surveys covering core and rotating modules, specialized surveys on post-harvest losses and non-standard measurement units, and capacity building for national statistical institutions. Activities to promote the use of agricultural data in policy and decision-making will be developed in consultation with ZamStats and relevant government stakeholders, based on assessments of national data needs.

The first survey implemented under the partnership was the Integrated Agricultural Survey 2024 (IAS 2024). Its results have already been disseminated through survey briefs and stakeholder events, while the survey report, statistical tables, and anonymized microdata are being prepared for publication.

Through its contribution to the SADC Regional Statistics Capacity Project (StatCap), 50x2030 is also supporting broader efforts to improve agricultural statistical production, dissemination, and institutional capacity across the region.
