Harmonizing and Improving Statistics in West Africa (HISWA)

On 26 March 2020, the World Bank Group Board has approved the project Harmonizing and Improving Statistics in West Africa (HISWA) to strengthen the statistical systems of Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo, and to support the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The investment in International Development Association (IDA) funds, for a total of $379 million in credits and grants, recognizes that data are essential to address socio-economic development challenges and are key to inform the decision-making process. The 50x2030 Initiative will work closely with the World Bank Poverty and Equity Global Practice to improve the agricultural data gap in these countries with technical assistance from the Initiative and tap into an additional source of funding for the Initiative’s partner countries.
