Mali: 7.45 Million Hectares Cultivated and 8.84 Million Tonnes of Cereals Produced

New data on Mali’s agricultural sector for the 2023–24 agricultural season is available, covering production, farming systems, and population dynamics:

· Cultivated land spans 7.45 million hectares, with 90% under sole cropping and 10% under intercropping

· Cereal production reached 8.84 million tonnes, 86% produced by traditional farming households

· 77% of individuals in farming households are engaged in agricultural activities; most are primarily involved in crop production (77.8%), with 67% also practicing livestock farming as a secondary activity

· Mali has a relatively young agricultural population: with over 50% of men and 45% of women under 15 years old. 77% of members of family farming households aged over six years are engaged in agricultural activities.

· Data on farming practices, resource management, and exposure to shocks, including climate-related events affecting agricultural production and livelihoods are available from the survey report.
