Training Workshop in Uganda Yields Analytical Briefs and Factsheets

The 50x2030 Initiative recently travelled to Uganda to conduct a training workshop in support of efforts to close the agricultural data gap in country. Members of the 50x2030 Data Use team, led by IFAD, met with officials and technical staff from the Ugandan Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) for a multi-day workshop in mid-January 2024.

The objectives of the training workshop were to strengthen the technical capacities of MAAIF staff specific to developing analytical briefs and factsheets following a learn-while-doing approach. The knowledge products produced during the training workshop would ultimately be presented and reviewed by senior officials at MAAIF for possible follow-up action.

23 MAAIF staff members participated in the workshop, working in teams with support from 50x2030 personnel on-site. At the end of the training, five outputs were produced: 1 new analytical brief (livestock), 2 analytical briefs (seed and extension services) reviewed by MAAIF staff, and two new factsheets (coffee and bananas).

The feedback received from the workshop participants was extremely positive. As a next step, the participants proposed in-house dissemination of the outputs produced to obtain management approval and support for widespread dissemination to inform new programs and policies.
