50x2030 FY24 Annual Report: A note from our Program Manager
With the conclusion of FY24, the 50x2030 Initiative has reached its halfway point. The 50x2030 Program Management Team and Implementing Partners (FAO, WB, IFAD) have made tremendous strides in partnership with country leaders to identify current gaps in agricultural data and its use, produce new data sets to fill these gaps and strengthen the technical capacities of data users to equip them with the tools and skills needed to make data-driven policy decisions. Through our programming, the 50x2030 Initiative is supporting country goals and ultimately contributing to efforts to improve policies toward increasing food security, building resilience, strengthening rural communities and protecting our global food systems from climate change.
To date, the Initiative has reached out to and engaged with 35 low- and lower middle-income countries, highlighting the strides made toward our goal of increasing data use for agricultural policy development in 50 countries by the conclusion of the Initiative in 2030. 35 data points are now available in 8 countries for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators 2: Zero Hunger and 5: Gender Equality, as well as 9 Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) indicators are now being monitored in 9 countries.
The increase in the number of partner countries was made possible through strong partnerships with World Bank IDA/IBRD operations that allocated US$ 161.5 of funding for agriculture survey data collection either as a component of regional statistics projects or as integral to agriculture-related projects in countries, US$ 73.9M contribution from partnerships with donors of the Initiative, particularly for technical assistance, as well as US$ 37.5M counterpart funding from multiple national governments.
Much more work is to be done in order to reach the key objectives of the Initiative, and we look forward to continued international partnership and close collaboration with country leaders. I invite you to read the full report for a more in-depth look at 50x2030’s progress and how we are supporting the national priorities of each country through stronger agricultural data systems.
