Côte d’Ivoire Releases New Agricultural Survey Brief
The Government of Côte d’Ivoire just released its 2024/2025 Annual Agricultural Survey report, marking an important step in supporting data-driven decision-making for agricultural policies, programs, and investments.
The newly released brief highlights key findings on agricultural households, production, livestock, and population structure.
Agriculture remains the backbone of the economy, employing nearly 60% of the total active population, underscoring its central importance for livelihoods and economic development.
The survey also reveals structural characteristics of land use and production systems. The average size of agricultural landholdings is 3.4 hectares per household, confirming the dominance of smallholder farming systems.
Access to land is overwhelmingly shaped by informal and family-based systems. Inheritance is the primary mode of land acquisition, accounting for 68.4% of agricultural land, followed by donations (15.8%) and purchases (14.2%), while other modes such as marriage remain marginal (1.5%).

The survey further points to key infrastructure gaps: only 3.0% of agricultural parcels are equipped with irrigation systems, while 97.0% rely on rainfed agriculture, pointing to high vulnerability to climate variability.
These findings highlight key gaps and priorities, providing a stronger basis for policy and investment decisions in the agricultural sector.
The survey, conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production (MEMINADERPV), is part of the Harmonizing and Improving Statistics in West Africa (HISWA) project of the World Bank, with technical assistance from the 50x2030 Initiative through the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
