Increasing Data Use in Cambodia: 50x2030 Conducts Training on Developing Analytical Reports for Monitoring Agriculture
In Cambodia, a three-day training on developing analytical reports for monitoring agriculture using PowerBI was conducted from October 30 to November 2, 2023. This training was led by the Data Use Component of the 50x2030 Initiative, which is directed by IFAD.
A total of 20 staff members from the Cambodia Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) were trained, including seven from the Provincial Departments of Agriculture. The training included participants from the Department of Planning and Statistics, General Directorate of Animal Health and Production, General Directorate of Agriculture and the Fisheries Administration. It also included participants from the Provincial Departments of Agriculture: Kandal, Kampong Thom, Pursat, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kampong Chhnang and Siem Reap. In addition, two participants from the Agricultural Research for Development, a local NGO, joined the training.
The teams developed analytical briefs on six major crops that are focus areas for MAFF in regards to value chain development. They also developed analytical briefs on major agricultural outputs, including rice, cashew, cassava, beef, poultry and pigs, which are priority areas for MAFF. These outputs were jointly identified as priority areas in partnership with MAFF senior management. The analytical briefs that were developed during the training will be used to inform existing programs aimed at the value chain development of the agricultural products.
Throughout the training in Cambodia, the Data Use team, which included the IFAD Country Director, met with the Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia and his team. IFAD's Bidisha Barooah made a presentation on the 50x2030 Initiative's efforts to expand activities for data use. The Initiative was very well received by the Vice-Minister, who shared that 50x2030 strongly aligns with the vision of the Minister of Agriculture. This vision has a strong emphasis on digitalization of agriculture and on human capacity development, both workstreams to which the Data Use team can make concrete contributions.
