Paving the Way Toward a Stronger Agricultural Statistics System in Guinea-Bissau

With the aim of strengthening its agricultural statistical system, Guinea-Bissau has developed and adopted a comprehensive survey program for the period 2025-2028 with the support of the 50x2030 Initiative. This effort will be coupled with the capacity development activities implemented in the context of the third phase of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS III).

A recent technical assistance mission conducted in Bissau emphasized collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and the Ministry of Agriculture (MADR). Key achievements from the mission include the development of a detailed activity plan for the technical assistance to be provided by the Initiative's Data Production component and a training on the methodology for listing agricultural holdings, targeted at the staff from the Directorate General of Agricultural Planning (DGPA) and INE. This training is considered as a key component of the country’s efforts to build the technical capacity required for conducting effective agricultural surveys.

The Director General of DGPA emphasized the importance of the support provided by the Initiative, noting that these efforts align with the country’s pressing need to strengthen its agricultural statistics capacity.

The 50x2030 initiative, a joint effort between the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), works in partnership with Guinea-Bissau's national institutions to foster statistical infrastructure with the aim to create a sustainable agricultural data ecosystem.
