50x2030 Supports Mali in Advancing Agricultural Data Collection for Informed Policy Making
The 50x2030 Initiative recently completed a technical assistance mission in Bamako, Mali, highlighting ongoing commitment to empowering partner countries like Mali with tools to generate agricultural data to shape public policy and increase food security.
The 50x2030 Initiative is implemented through a partnership between the World Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). This initiative supports countries in producing agricultural survey data necessary for monitoring national, regional and international development programs (such as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program - CAADP).
The mission was led by the 50x2030 Initiative’s Data Production component, directed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), in collaboration with Mali's National Statistics Department (INSTAT) and the Ministry of Rural Development's Statistics and Planning Unit (CPS/SDR). It focused on planning the dissemination of data from Mali's 2023/2024 agricultural campaign and on planning the upcoming 2024 survey operations.
Key activities included workshops on agricultural statistics communication, technical discussions on data tabulation and the design of a new data collection module that includes questions on productivity, income and labor.
50x2030 will maintain its support for Mali through ongoing online technical consultations. This sustained assistance aims to ensure continuity and further capacity-building between missions and strengthens Mali’s capacity to produce accurate, timely and relevant agricultural data.
