Data Use in Senegal: Training Workshop Produces Key Outputs for Policy Development
In February, the 50x2030 Initiative successfully led a training workshop in Senegal, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture of Senegal and the national statistics office, the Direction de l’Analyse, de Prévision et des Statistique Agricole (DAPSA). The objective of this training workshop was to work with country officials to produce analytical briefs and crop factsheets that will ultimately support agricultural policy development, contributing to key food security and climate goals in Senegal.
Members of the 50x2030 Data Use component, led by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), conducted the multi-day training workshop onsite in Saly, Mbour. Throughout the workshop, three briefs were produced (farm typology, agroecology and gender and youth) and two factsheets were developed (rice and groundnuts).
At the training workshop’s conclusion, there was a proposal to build a task force within the Ministry of Agriculture and other line Ministries to develop more knowledge products that will inform decision makers. Following its success, the 50x2030 Initiative will lead another training workshop in Senegal in April to produce three additional policy briefs and three factsheets. The Ministry will define the topics.
The policy briefs and factsheets produced can be found in the DAPSA repository of Agricultural Policy Documents. For more information on the 50x2030 Initiative’s work in Senegal, view the country page here.
